Special Education
The Macon-Piatt Special Education District (MPSED) provides services to approximately 1,300 students with disabilities in Decatur Public Schools. The combined efforts of dedicated professionals and concerned parents allow us to provide quality services that are truly student focused. The Individualized Educational Program (IEP) team, which includes the parents, determines the appropriate program and need for related services based on the individual educational needs of the student.
MPSED programs include Cross Categorical resource and instructional support, Essential Skills Program, Life Skills Program, Early Childhood Program, Social-Emotional Development Program, Hearing Impaired Program, Visually Impaired Program and the Special Education Alternative Program.
Some of the related services include audiology, Braillist/reader, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work service, speech-language therapy, interpreter services, school health services, career & technical education, vocational/transition services, orientation & mobility training, psychological services, acquisition of daily living skills, travel training, supported employment, supports for transition to post-secondary education and interagency linkages.
